Sundaram Finance Ltd. (SFL) was incorporated in 1954 to fund the purchase of commercial vehicles and passenger cars. The company started with a paid-up capital of Rs. 2.00 Lakhs and went public in 1972. Sundaram Finance is one of India's largest non-banking financial companies. It is present in diverse aspects of the financial services industry, including vehicle finance, mutual funds, home finance, general insurance, and financial services distribution.

Newton exited in 2002, and BNP Paribas Asset Management (BNPP AM) joined as a partner in 2006. In 2010, through a global merger and acquisition, the parent company of BNPP AM took over the Fortis Group’s banking and financial services activities. Therefore, Sundaram Finance fully bought out BNP Paribas's stake and took 100% charge of the business. Sundaram Finance Ltd. fully sponsors the mutual fund and holds a 100% stake in the AMC and the Trustee Company.
